High School/Academic Year in Ireland

Kinsale School of English can place students in a choice of schools in West Cork or South Cork, including Kinsale, Crosshaven, Bandon,Clonakilty and Bishopstown. All schools offer a wide range of subjects, both academic and practical, as well as sporting facilities and other activities.
The School Programme in Ireland is open to EU and EEA students between the ages 12 and 18 who already have a reasonable level of English. All Irish High Schools teach a similar range of subjects.

The High School cycle has three parts:

Junior Cycle - 3 years starting from age 12 or 13 and finishing with a state examination.

Transition Year - A year with less focus on academic study, for 15 - 16 years old. The course varies from school to school but offers a range of opportunities to acquire new skills and develop students' personal and social abilities.
Many international students come to Ireland for all or part of transition year. The mixture of academic study with non-academic activities is ideal for developing maturity and confidence.

Senior Cycle - 2 years of study leading to the Leaving Certificate Examination. Students study 6 to 8 subjects and the exam is internationally respected and recognized for entry to third level education.

Students can choose to study in Ireland for a full academic year (three terms: September to June) or for just one or two terms.

(Our summer junior programme would offer a taste of life in Ireland before committing to a longer period at school here.)

WHO WOULD BENEFIT? If you are curious, adventurous and interested in other cultures this could be the experience of a lifetime for you. Being fluent in English improves your future job prospects throughout Europe, and beyond.

WHAT WE OFFER:
" A big welcome at Cork airport and delivery to your host family. Their house will be close to the school
" An introduction to your new town in Ireland.
" A Cultural introduction to life in Ireland and living in a host family.
" Full board and lodging with a host family for the duration of the academic term or year. All families will be interviewed and selected on the basis of their ability to provide a positive home environment.
